Project Overview
Works on removal of level crossings at Kororoit Ck Rd, Aviation Rd, Cherry St, Werribee St, Old Geelong Rd, Ferguson St in the Western Suburbs, and Greens Rd, Abbotts Rd (Stage 2) and Eumemmerring Ck as part of the Cranbourne Line Upgrade. These included various types of bridge structures, including U Trough structures, integral and simply supported T-Beam bridges, in-situ deck bridges, hybrid T-Beam and in-situ structures and launched steel bridge. The varied approach’s were selected to best allow for quicker removal with minimal disruption to road and rail users, particular to each situation. The projects have added capacity to the network, enhanced safety and reduced congestion.
Project Overview
Clifton Formwork (Vic) was contracted by the Western Program Alliance to carry out formwork, reinforcement and concrete placement works for nine varied bridge structures, as well as underpasses and varied station structure works. Broadly, the projects involved constructing pile caps, piers, blade walls, crossheads, hammerheads, bridge decks, stitch pours as well as installing precast elements such as T-beams, U-troughs, L walls, kerbs and parapet barriers. Portions of the program were executed during rail and road occupations, including entire projects in rail occupation. A key achievement from one of the early projects was Clifton Formwork (Vic)’s innovative construction methodology that secured the U-trough stitch falsework, without through tie bars, allowing access for further trades sooner when working in a rail occupation. This was rolled out by MTM as the preferred method across the Level Crossing Removal programs.
